Abstract

We present a tutorial example of the Quantum Heuristics Toolbox: the quantum recognition heuristic. Quantum Heuristics Toolbox is a framework that aims to unify probabilistic and heuristic approaches to reasoning while enabling human-like, rule-based decision-making to be implemented in quantum circuits. In this tutorial, we provide explicit calculations, conceptual explanations of key quantum principles for cognitive science researchers, supporting code and circuit diagrams, as well as a preliminary experimental design for investigating the quantum recognition heuristic. We hope this example offers a clear introduction to the core ideas behind the Quantum Heuristics Toolbox and encourages further exploration and development of the broader framework.
