Effectiveness of Nursing Interventions in Pain Management of Arteriovenous Fistula Insertion in Patients with End-Stage Renal Failure with Hemodialysis: A Systematic Literature Review
Abstract
Background: End stage renal disease is a global health issue requiring hemodialysis to sustain life. End stage renal disease is a condition characterized by gradual kidney function decline, leading to impaired blood filtration and the kidneys' inability to remove metabolic waste. The insertion of an Arteriovenous Fistula (AV Fistula) as the primary vascular access often causes recurrent pain that impacts patients' quality of life. Research Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of nursing approaches, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological, in managing AV Fistula pain in hemodialysis patients. Research Methods: This study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach using simplified thematic analysis. Articles were sourced from databases such as ScienceDirect, PubMed, EBSCO, and ProQuest using Boolean operators "AND" and "OR." Keywords included " Arteriovenous fistula, Chronic kidney disease, Effectiveness, Hemodialysis, Intervention, Non-pharmacology, Pain management, Pharmacology" Article selection followed the PRISMA diagram, utilizing the web-based application Rayyan, and the analysis referred to the JBI critical appraisal tools.
