Blockchain enable Secured Inter-vehicle Communication in vehicular networks
Abstract
The Intelligent Transport System (ITS) aims to enhance road safety and traffic efficiency applications which are enabled through vehicular networks (VNs). Although vehicular networks provide promising safety application, but there are security and privacy concerns which are needed to be addressed to ensure trust between connected vehicles. To enable trust among the vehicles, it is primarily needed an authentication mechanism to ensure the legitimacy of vehicles in the network. In this study, an distributed blockchain enabled secured vehicular communication model has been proposed which utilizes the Software Defined Networks (SDN) based vehicular communication. In the proposed model, an Authentication certificate authority is used to issue the dynamic authentication certificates to network components which is used by network peers to compute the authentication signatures. A blockchain consensus based vehicle authentication algorithm has been proposed which utilises the location and neighbors for verification. The proposed model is simulated for urban vehicular environment to analyse the performance of authentication. The simulation results determines that the proposed model provides successful malicious vehicle detection and ensure secured inter-vehicle communication.
